Welcome to the LUYAA Soccer Coaches web page. Thank
you for your interest in coaching LUYAA Soccer. LUYAA Soccer has a network
of volunteer coaches who support each other and are here to help you have an
enjoyable coaching experience. Please visit the Soccer Contacts page if you
need to contact a member of the Soccer Committee.

interested in attending one of the upcoming courses, please

luyaagirlsco@comcast.net. The courses listed below as
hosted by LUYAA Soccer are free of charge to any currently
registered LUYAA Soccer coaches who agree to coach with LUYAA
Soccer for up to one year after completion of the course.
Completion of the course is not a guarantee that you will be
selected to coach by LUYAA Soccer.

NSCAA
State Diploma - CANCELLED; Rescheduled In August
When: July 11th
Time: 9:00-2:00pm
Location: Locust Grove Church,13356 Glissans Mill Rd, Mt. Airy,
MD 21771
Course Description: The State Diploma is a five-hour course
directed toward the person newly involved in coaching soccer. It
is designed to help coaches working with players in the 5- to
10-year age range. Special emphasis is placed on understanding
the physiological and psychological differences of coaching
children.
The course is designed to emphasize that the game itself
essentially is the teacher and the focus of the coach at this
level clearly is as facilitator. The curriculum focuses on the
organization of a practice session, using small-sided games to
enhance knowledge and fun, basic understanding of the Laws of
the Game and information about the care and prevention of
injuries. There is no testing in the State Diploma.
NSCAA
Regional Diploma
When: July 10-11th
Time: July 10th 6:00-9:30pm, July 11th 12:00-5:00pm
Location: Locust Grove Church,13356 Glissans Mill Rd, Mt. Airy,
MD 21771
Course Description: The Regional Diploma is a 13-hour course
designed for the coach working players 11 to 18 years of age. An
emphasis is placed on learning to work with the developing
player within both an individual and team concept.
The curriculum outlines how technical and tactical concepts can
be applied in the development of players. The focus is placed on
the basic methods of coaching, teaching proper technique, the
theory and application of offensive and defensive tactics and
understanding team management. There is no testing in the
Regional Diploma.
NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma
When: July 12th
Time: 10:00-5:00pm
Location: Old National Pike Park, Field #2
Course Description: The Advanced Regional Diploma is a 21-hour
course that shares a portion of its curriculum with the Regional
Diploma. The Advanced Regional Diploma adds an eight-hour
segment to the 13-hour Regional Diploma curriculum, devoted to
technical and tactical uses of small-sided games, the study of
systems of play and a practice teaching component.
Participants are given an opportunity to conduct a training
session on an assigned topic and are assessed by the course
instructor.

COACH CERTIFICATION ***********************************
LUYAA Soccer expects that each of our coaches will
obtain official certifications from either the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America, or the United States Soccer Federation. Obtaining
beginner licenses requires a commitment of your time and attendance at an
officially licensed course. LUYAA Soccer often times hosts courses and
those courses hosted by LUYAA will be free of charge to our members who
attend and agree to coach in LUYAA Soccer. Courses not hosted by LUYAA
which are offered at other locations may also be taken by our coaches.
Coaches must front the money for these courses and submit proof of payment
and a copy of an earned license to the soccer commissioner for full
reimbursement.
Diploma details:
Emphasis is placed on learning how to apply
technical and tactical concepts with the
developing player in individual and team
settings.
The Regional Diploma is a
14-hour course focusing on methods of coaching,
teaching proper technique, the theory and
application of attacking and defending
principles, and team management. The Regional
Diploma is considered the equivalent of a USSF E
License by MSYSA (www.msysa.org)
The Advanced Regional Diploma
is a 21-hour course designed as a supplement to
the Regional Diploma, adding eight hours devoted
to technical and tactical uses of small-sided
games, the study of systems of play and a
practice teaching component.
