About SMYLA
In order to meet the evolving needs of our boys within our lacrosse
program, we are excited to inform you that our boys will be playing within
the Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (SMYLA) starting this
Spring 2006. We will adopt the SMYLA rules and begin league play in March
2006.
SMYLA is organized into three divisions.
Northern Division
Montgomery Village
Rockville
Linganore (new to SMYLA)
Urbana (new to SMYLA)
Damascus (new to SMYLA) |
Central Division
Olney
Prince George’s
Laurel
Bowie
Burtonsville (new to SMYLA) |
Southern Division
Calvert North
Calvert South
St. Mary’s 1
St. Mary’s 2
Dunkirk (new to SMYLA) |
North Division teams will play each other two times (home and away), in
addition to playing one home and one away game against a Central or Southern
Division team (total of 10 games, weather permitting). There may also be a
non-league game scheduled for fun. At the end of the season a League playoff
will be held to determine the league champion in the U11, U13, and U15 age
brackets.
Teams will be formed based solely on birth years. In our previous
conference, grades were considered, however beginning 2006, the only
determining factor on which age bracket to play in will be birth year,
therefore 9th graders born in 1991 who are not on a High school level roster
(including JV club) may be eligible to play. Depending on registration
numbers, U15 & U13 will have an A-team and a B-team; B team players will
generally have equal playing time over the course of a season. The
competition in the A brackets will be very strong this year. To be fair to
coaches and teammates, players on the A teams will need to be prepared for a
strong commitment to lacrosse during the spring season.
Linganore and Urbana are thrilled with this new opportunity to play
within SMYLA and look forward to a great new season of lacrosse.
