To all LOUYAA basketball participants and their families/friends
- We are off to another great year in LOUYAA basketball and are
hopeful everyone will have an enjoyable experience.
As part
of the experience, we as LOUYAA basketball participants and families
must remember to respect and thank those individuals who help make
your child's basketball experience enjoyable and trouble free.
Please take a moment to thank all the school custodial staff and
administrators who allow LOUYAA to be guests in their schools as well
as the referees who work very hard to make the games a memorable
experience for our kids.
As
a "bridge" between the intramural experience and Mid Maryland travel
programs we will again have "select" teams competing in the MYBA
Division 1 league. Additionally, LOUYAA will field teams in the 5th
grade and 6th grade Rising Stars leagues located in Montgomery
county. Both MYBA Division 1 and Rising Stars will offer a
challenging opportunity for our more experience players.
Tryouts for MYBA Select basketball teams begin Sunday, October 21st
at Linganore High School. LOUYAA will also use these sessions to
determine membership on winter Rising Stars rosters. Both of these
are opportunities for the
more experienced basketball player
as they offer a higher level of competition compared to that of the
intramural program. Intramural evaluations are separate from these
tryouts and will be held at a different time (TBA). Please note that
any child not selected for MYBA/Rising Stars will automatically be
placed in the intramural pool and should attend evaluations as
directed. Unfortunately MYBA does not offer a Division 1 level for
girls basketball but the Rising Stars team will meet the need for
more competitive play. A few important points of interest:
1) Practices for all teams will begin in mid-November.
2) MYBA league play begins in December
3) Rising Stars league play begins in January. Fifth and sixth grade
girls are encouraged to take part in LOUYAA's intramural league in
addition to Rising Stars.
4) Boys must meet the following guidelines to be eligible for MYBA
play: U10- cannot turn 10 prior to September 1, 2012; U12- cannot
turn 12 prior to September 1, 2012; U14- cannot turn 14 prior to
September 1, 2012

INTRAMURAL EVALUATION INFO:
In general, all INTRAMURAL practices start in early November for
all leagues. Games start in early December and follow a 10
game weekend schedule (Not during Christmas school break)
and finish end of February. Boys and Girls in grades 3-8 then
have a single elimination tournament in March, usually ending up by
the 3rd weekend of March.
All
intramural participants must attend one night of evaluations.
If a player cannot attend on his/her designated night, he/she can be
evaluated at the alternate meeting. Any player who fails to
attend either night will be placed in a blind draw and randomly
assigned to a team. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

families will be notified once the drafts have been completed and
teams will begin practicing shortly thereafter.
If you're interested in coaching, you must register as a coach on
the registration page and complete the background check as prompted
on the website.
