LUYAA Background
Checks
for Volunteers
Frequently Asked Questions.
1. Who
must complete a background check? All LUYAA Board of
Directors, Commissioners, League Coordinators, Head & Assistant Coaches, Team
Moms, Fundraisers Coordinators, & Concessions Coordinators. At this time, background checks must be re-submitted every 3
years.
2. How do I
submit my information for the background check?
Volunteers must register into the database to be a Head Coach, Assistant
Coach, Team Parent, Fundraising Coordinator, Concessions Coordinator,
etc.
Click
Here to register.
If this is the first time you have completed a background check with LUYAA, you will need to sign a paper form also.
You can download that
form here.
3. Do I have
to pay for this? No, there is no charge to the
volunteer at this time.
4. Is submitting my information online safe?
Yes, it is as safe as we can make it. It is a "Secure"
website, and the only person who can access your information, is the
Security Company Agent, that will be doing the Background Checks.
LUYAA Board Members & Commissioners will not be able to access your
Social Security number, but they will be able to lookup when and if the
background check was approved. They will need to be able to
view that information so they can assign only coaches that have had
their background checks done.
6. Why
is this better than paper forms? Well, for starters,
there is a lot less data entry and errors and the submission process
will go quicker. Also many forms were being submitted to
Coordinators, Commissioners, Board Members etc, and passed through
several hands before reaching the President. Taking registrations
online eliminates the risk that the form will be lost or misplaced.
7.
Who receives the acceptance/failure indications
from the the Security Company?
At this time, the LUYAA President and Vice-President are notified of
"failed" background checks. There is no explanation as to why the
applicant failed. It either means that the applicant did not meet
the criteria, or there was missing or incorrect information. Click
here for the
Criteria.
8. What happens if I fail? If your background check
comes back as a failure, the LUYAA President will contact you, and
provide you with contact information at the Security Company. You
will be responsible for contacting them to determine if more information
is needed, or to determine why you failed. The President will also
notify the Sport Commissioner that you will be unable to coach until
cleared by the Security Company.
9. I really don't want to do this or I have more questions before I do.
Who do I contact? You may contact the
LUYAA President and she will be glad to answer your questions.
